I didn't just squeeze them. I built a career.

Life has a funny way of ending up, doesn’t it? I mean, who would’ve thought a small-town girl like me would ever leave that tiny dot on the map? But I did. I traveled the world, met the man of my dreams, and somehow ended up a freaking men’s barber. When life hands you lemons, sometimes you don’t just make lemonade; you build a whole damn career out of it.
I’ve been in the men’s grooming game for about 13 years now. My husband and I have moved four times for his career, and I’ve worked everywhere: commercial shops, booth rentals, you name it. But never in my life did I think I’d be writing a blog or running my own business. Yet here I am.
Even though I’m only four weeks into owning my salon, I’ve been hustling since January trying to make a little money on the side. Who knew trying to sell Vans would be so dang hard? But I sure did look happy in that picture above, smiling like I had it all figured out. Spoiler alert: I didn’t. But I tried. And that counts for something.
I’ve got my own LLC, a women’s boutique that didn’t quite take off but still sits in my back pocket (we’ll talk about that in another episode), and now this brand-new salon I’m learning to run day by day.
And listen, I told y’all this was going to be unfiltered. If I say “freaking,” “awesome,” or “shit,” just know it’s legit. I’m just a small-town girl with no filter and a whole lot of honesty. But I’m also a godly woman. I believe in God, and He’s blessed me more times than I can count.
My husband? Lord, help me. I love him, but he drives me absolutely shit-crazy. He’s late to everything, wants to remodel every room we step into, and he’s the reason I’m even writing this blog. Maybe it’ll make me successful. Maybe it’ll make me money. Maybe it’ll just give me a place to talk some shit. Either way, I’m here.
And here’s the truth: I don’t always get it right. I screw up, and I’ll keep screwing up. But I’m committed to growing, learning, and building confidence. These past four weeks have humbled me. Honestly, my whole life has. Coming from a small town and not always believing in my own skills, it’s wild when someone walks into my salon and says they found me on Google. That hits different. It reminds me I’m doing something right.
So here we are. Day one. A new venture, a new voice, a new chapter. Let’s see what we build.
